Pune: Parents of students at City International School, Aundh, staged a protest on Monday against a sudden fee hike, demanding an immediate rollback. The demonstration saw around 100 parents gathering outside the school, expressing their frustration over a ₹12,000 annual fee increase and a mandatory ₹7,000 sports fee, despite the school lacking a playground.

The protest was triggered by a statement from the school principal, Apoorva Patil, suggesting that if parents could not afford the revised fees, they should consider shifting their children elsewhere. Parents condemned this remark, calling it “irresponsible” and “insensitive.”

Parents Allege Lack of Prior Notice

Parents claim the fee hike was implemented without prior notice, leaving them financially burdened. A protesting parent said, “The school does not even have a playground, yet we are being forced to pay ₹7,000 as a sports fee. We are essentially paying for other people’s facilities.”

Another parent, refuted the school’s claim of prior intimation. “The school administration insists they informed us over the phone, but I never received any call or official communication. This fee hike is unfair and should be revoked immediately,” he said.

Authorities Intervene

Saurabh Kundlik, state secretary of BJP’s Yuva Morcha, attempted to mediate discussions between the school administration and parents. However, the issue remains unresolved, with parents insisting on a complete rollback of the fee hike.
