Pune: Residents of Parsi Colony, Lullanagar are plagued by everyday traffic congestion and issues, especially in the evening time.

Speaking to Pune Pulse, Neville Irani, a resident of Parsi Colony, Lullanagar said, “The traffic situation is so bad that one cannot drive in and drive out of the Parsi Colony gate. The area of Gangadham Chowk, which is just 5 minutes away from Parsi Colony, is filled with traffic congestion. Also, the Parsi colony has a 60% population of senior citizens and, in case of an emergency, how shall the ambulance or any vehicle move in and out of the colony? This is a serious concern for the members of the colony. Recently, one of my friends, also a resident of the Parsi colony, was travelling on that stretch. Due to the humungous traffic, he couldn’t enter the colony. Thus, he parked his vehicle nearby & walked to the colony. After 10 to 10:30 pm, he went to pick up his vehicle as the traffic eased down a bit at that time.”

Kaizad, another resident of Parsi Colony, Lullanagar said, “Traffic problem is becoming worst with each passing day. It starts at 7:30 pm & ends around 10 pm. I cannot enter the colony gate without facing any traffic-related trouble. I have to compulsorily travel from Gangadham Chowk to Lullanagar Chowk to enter the colony which takes a lot of time. Commuters do not have traffic sense at all. They simply drive the vehicle carelessly with no regard for anyone. Commuters drive on the footpath as well.”

Rohinton Mistry, another resident of Parsi Colony, Lullanagar said, “The entry from the side of Little Italy should be blocked as it disturbs traffic flow. The same is true on the other side of the road in the vicinity of Parsi Colony where a traffic jam occurs every evening. In my opinion, the road should be a one-way entrance only from the side of Parsi Colony.”

Farzan Irani, another resident of Parsi Colony, Lullanagar said, “The traffic issue is very huge and prevalent near our colony. There is no proper management as well regarding this. There has been a 5 to 10-minute increase in travelling short distances from that stretch. Traffic is one thing. Another is vehicles driving on the footpaths due to which we cannot walk as there is no space. This situation goes on from 7 pm to 10 pm every day. Also, commuters do not follow traffic signals at Gera Junction. It is a huge junction as, from there, one road leads to the Wanowrie side, one to the Kondhwa side, one towards Fatima Nagar etc. Hence, by not following traffic signals, the commuters add to the everyday traffic problem.”

Mahesh Pawar, from Kondhwa Traffic Police said, “Whenever there is a traffic issue, we send police personnel to clear & resolve the problems. We are soon planning to appoint traffic wardens near Parsi Colony.”
