Pune, November 1, 2025 — The Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) has announced plans to redevelop areas within a 500-metre radius of 11 metro stations under the Transit-Oriented Development (TOD) initiative. The move aims to boost public transport connectivity, upgrade urban infrastructure, and create better parking facilities across the city’s metro corridors.

The project seeks to streamline traffic flow, enhance commuter convenience, and encourage sustainable urban development. As part of this initiative, PCMC will revise construction permissions to allow the redevelopment of commercial and residential buildings within the TOD zones.

Local Area Plan (LAP) will be prepared in line with the Unified Development Control and Promotion Rules (UDCPR). The civic body has appointed a Gujarat-based firm to conduct surveys and draft plans for all 11 metro station areas.

The LAP will focus on improving pedestrian and vehicular movement, reducing congestion, and enhancing the quality of life for local residents. It will also introduce new urban design guidelines and zoning norms. Developers working within the TOD zones will be required to obtain special permissions from PCMC and ensure at least nine metres of open space in front of new constructions for parking purposes.

PCMC City Engineer Makarand Nikam stated that the LAP will be completed within nine months. “After public consultations and state government approval, implementation will begin on the ground,” he said.

Once approved by the Maharashtra government, the redevelopment will transform metro station areas into modern, accessible urban spaces—aligning with Pune’s broader goal of promoting transit-driven, sustainable city planning.
