Residents of Phursungi-Bhekrai Nagar have drawn the attention of Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis by displaying a message on a banner: “God, free us from the clutches of the municipality’s troubles.” The citizens are grappling with severe issues, including drinking water shortages, delayed roadwork, drainage problems, broken chambers, lack of parks, healthcare centers, schools, and access to government schemes.

Trapped between the administrations of the Pune Municipal Corporation and the local council, residents are pleading with CM Fadnavis to intervene. In Bhekrai Nagar, basic civic amenities remain inadequate, and citizens are struggling to access government schemes. Water scarcity is severe, forcing people to wander for days in search of water. Roads are in poor condition, drainage issues persist, and broken chambers have led to foul odors and health risks. Stagnant water in drains has turned into a breeding ground for disease, yet the administration has not acted.

Additionally, there is no government health center, no parks for children, and economically weaker students cannot avail of scholarships. Urban poor schemes are also inaccessible. In response, residents have put up banners across the area, directly appealing to the Chief Minister for immediate attention.

Resident Sanjay Harpale stated that even after 1.5 years since the formation of the municipality, no funds, staff, or officers have been allocated to resolve civic problems. People had hoped for better facilities when transitioning from a gram panchayat to a municipality, but their struggles continue.

Another resident, Ranjit Raskar, emphasized that citizens are deprived of basic facilities and government schemes. They continue to demand inclusion in the Pune Municipal Corporation for better governance and have urged the Chief Minister and Guardian Minister to take immediate action.

Former corporator Ganesh Dhore and resident Amol Harpale stated that the Fursungi municipality was imposed upon them, and citizens still face numerous unresolved issues without any administrative support.

Key Issues:

In this year’s financial plan, no budgetary allocation has been made for the Fursungi-Uruli Devachi Municipality by the Pune Municipal Corporation.
