Pune, January 5, 2025: A traffic police officer in Pimpri-Chinchwad was physically assaulted by a tempo driver after issuing a challan for traffic violations at Markal Chowk, Alandi, on Friday morning. The accused, identified as Vijay Jare (33) from Gopalpura Chakan Chowk, was arrested on the spot by the Alandi Police.  

The incident occurred around 11:15 am when Sub-Inspector Ankush Vadekar from the Dighi Alandi Traffic Division stopped Jare for violating traffic rules. Enraged by the penalty, Jare allegedly slapped, kicked, and verbally abused Vadekar. Witnesses reported that the assault left the officer’s uniform torn before other officers intervened to restrain Jare.  

Police revealed that Jare, who supplies building construction materials, expressed anger over previous challans issued to him. A case has been registered under Sections 132, 121(1), 352, and 351(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).  

Authorities emphasized the importance of respecting law enforcement officials and warned of strict action against those who assault public servants.
