Pune: PMC Approves ₹6.83 Crore Contract To Process 300 MT Of Dry Waste Daily
Pune, July 24, 2026: In a major step towards strengthening Pune’s solid waste management system, the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) Standing Committee has approved a ₹6.83 crore contract for the collection, transportation and scientific processing of dry waste across the city.
The proposal, cleared during the Standing Committee meeting on Thursday, will enable the processing of at least 300 metric tonnes (MT) of non-biodegradable dry waste every day.
The contract has been awarded to Bhumi Green Energy Envirocare LLP, which emerged as the sole technically qualified bidder after two rounds of the tender process. The company will undertake the work at a rate of ₹844 per metric tonne.
According to Standing Committee Chairman Shrinath Bhimale, the agency will collect dry waste from PMC ramps, transfer stations and other designated locations before transporting it to cement plants. The waste will then be scientifically processed into Refuse-Derived Fuel (RDF) or disposed of using other approved environmentally friendly methods.
The contract will initially remain valid for six months, with an option to extend it by an additional three months, if required. During this period, the agency is expected to transport and process around 81,000 metric tonnes of dry waste.
Bhimale said the project is aimed at ensuring uninterrupted collection, transportation and scientific disposal of dry waste generated across the city, thereby improving Pune’s waste management infrastructure and reducing the accumulation of non-biodegradable waste.
The PMC had granted administrative approval for the project on June 9, following which the tender process was initiated. Since only one bidder participated in the first round, the civic body floated a second tender. However, the second round also received only one technically qualified bid from Bhumi Green Energy Envirocare LLP. After scrutiny of the documents, the financial bid was opened on June 25, and the Tender Committee approved the quoted rate on June 29.
The total project cost has been estimated at ₹6.83 crore, excluding GST. The expenditure will be met from the Solid Waste Management Department’s budget allocated for tipping fees related to waste processing projects at Sus, Mahalunge, Bavdhan, Kondhave Dhawade, cement plants, and the Excel waste processing facility in Katraj.
PMC has earmarked ₹8.5 crore for the project in its 2026–27 budget, with officials stating that additional funds will be allocated if necessary to ensure uninterrupted execution of the waste processing initiative.
