The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has started building an important railway overbridge (ROB) at Sadhu Vaswani Bridge in Koregaon Park. This 54-meter bridge is being constructed to enhance the connection between Solapur and Kolhapur routes.
To make sure the construction work goes smoothly, the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has asked the Pune Railway Division to plan a two-hour break in railway operations every day throughout the expected 52-day construction period.
The PMC has chosen to limit construction work to a specific two-hour timeframe to reduce the inconvenience caused by the disruption.
Given the two-hour blocks, residents and commuters are encouraged to stay informed about any temporary alterations to train services during the construction phase. The civic body has pledged to adhere strictly to schedules and safety measures to lessen inconvenience.
Furthermore, the department overseeing the reconstruction of the ROB has requested the water department to relocate the pipeline to avoid any complications. Since the railway tracks are close to the construction area, the PMC water department plans to employ the ‘jack and push’ technique to install the new pipeline under the tracks.
Residents and businesses in the Yerwada and Kalyani Nagar areas have been advised to keep themselves updated regarding any possible disturbances or news concerning the water pipeline relocation and the ongoing bridge construction.
Srinivas Bonala, head of the projects department at PMC, mentioned, “The groundwork in the Koregaon Park area has been finished, and we are now progressing with the excavation work for new foundations. We have notified the railway administration about the necessity of implementing a daily block.”
Traffic blocks can be managed through:
1. Diversions
2. Lane closures
3. Temporary traffic signals
4. Flagging operations
5. Coordination with local authorities.
