The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has started road construction at Katraj Chowk after taking possession of a private plot. The move is expected to reduce traffic congestion in the area.

Survey No. 1/2 at Katraj Chowk was private property. In the 1987 development plan, a 30-meter-wide road was proposed, requiring 6,200 square meters of land. However, PMC did not acquire the land at the time.

In the 2017 development plan, the road width was increased to 60 meters. PMC completed land measurement, valuation, and acquisition, paying ₹21.57 crore as compensation under the 2013 Land Acquisition Act.

A flyover is already under construction at Katraj Chowk, which will help reduce traffic in the long run. However, the newly acquired land allows immediate relief for commuters.

Despite a public holiday, PMC’s Road Department started work on the site. The area was covered with waste, debris, and soil, which is now being cleared using JCB machines.

Road Department Chief Aniruddha Pawaskar said that a road was necessary to ease congestion at Katraj Chowk.
