Pune: PMC Clarifies No 30% Property Tax Rebate For Senior Citizens, Calls Viral Messages Misleading
Pune, April 18, 2026: The Pune Municipal Corporation has issued an official clarification refuting viral messages circulating on social media platforms, particularly WhatsApp, that claim senior citizens in Maharashtra are entitled to a 30% rebate on residential property tax.
According to the Tax Assessment and Collection Department of the civic body, the information being widely shared is misleading and not based on any official government resolution. Authorities confirmed that no such blanket tax concession has been approved by the state government.
The statement further clarified that no decision has been issued granting a uniform 30% property tax discount across municipal corporations or councils in Maharashtra. Additionally, there is no existing state-level scheme offering such benefits to senior citizens.
Civic officials have urged elderly residents and citizens at large not to rely on unverified messages circulating online. For accurate and updated information regarding property tax concessions, citizens are advised to directly contact the nearest PMC office or visit the official website.
Highlighting the risks of misinformation, the administration has appealed to the public not to forward such unverified content and to remain cautious of rumours being spread on social media platforms. The advisory was issued by the Deputy Commissioner and Head of the Tax Assessment and Collection Department of the civic body.
