The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has carried out a major anti-encroachment drive on Jangli Maharaj Road and Fergusson College Road, clearing an estimated 18,000 to 20,000 sq ft of illegal constructions. The action targeted unauthorised establishments that were causing public inconvenience, obstructing pedestrian movement, and contributing to congestion in two of the city’s busiest corridors.

According to officials, the drive was executed by PMC’s Anti-Encroachment Department, which undertook a coordinated effort to identify and remove structures that violated civic norms. These included temporary extensions, illegal kiosks, roadside occupations, and constructions built without approval. The department stated that several of these establishments had been repeatedly warned in the past but continued to operate in violation of regulations.

The operation involved the deployment of demolition machinery and on-ground teams to ensure swift and effective clearance. Civic officials emphasised that the action was part of an ongoing initiative to restore footpaths, ensure smooth traffic flow, and maintain urban discipline in commercial hubs.
