Pune: PMC Fines Two Housing Societies In Mohammedwadi For Illegal Sewage Discharge Into Stormwater Drains

The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has imposed penalties on two housing societies in Mohammed Wadi for illegally discharging untreated sewage and STP overflow into stormwater drains, following complaints from residents and local activists.
A PMC inspection team conducted a detailed site visit on February 7, beginning from Elina Living Society and extending towards nearby residential societies in the NIBM Annex and Mohammed Wadi areas. During the inspection, officials identified multiple points of sewage flow entering stormwater lines, creating foul odour and unhygienic conditions in the locality.
As part of the action, PMC penalised Maple Tower on NIBM Road with a fine of ₹10,000, and Archana Kohinoor Glory with a fine of ₹5,000, for negligence and violations of sewage disposal norms. Officials found that STP overflow was being diverted directly into stormwater drains, causing environmental pollution and public health risks.
The civic body has launched a detailed investigation to trace all illegal sewage outlets in the area and identify other possible sources of contamination. PMC officials have also warned nearby housing societies that stricter action will be taken if similar violations are found in the future.
Residents and representatives from Archana Paradise Phase 1 and 2, NIBM Annex and Mohammed Wadi welcomed the civic action and appreciated PMC’s efforts in taking firm steps against those responsible for the illegal discharge.
PMC has assured residents that the investigation is ongoing and that continuous monitoring will be carried out to stop STP flow completely and restore the area to normal sanitary conditions. The civic administration has reiterated its commitment to environmental protection and public health, stating that illegal sewage discharge will not be tolerated under any circumstances.
