The Fire Department of Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has issued an advisory for everyone to combat the fire incidents in Pune which are on the rise.

As per further information from the PMC Fire Department, The ‘Maharashtra Fire Prevention and Life Protection Measures Act, 2006’ is applicable in the whole of Maharashtra and as per section 3 (1) of the Act, it is imperative to take necessary fire prevention measures in any building and, also as per section 3 (3), it is mandatory to submit a certificate in the prescribed format from the fire license receiving agency to the Chief Fire Officer, PMC which is the sole responsibility of the owner or occupier of the building.

All citizens and establishments in the Pune Municipal Corporation area, such as high-rise residential buildings, cinema halls, theaters, hospitals, educational, commercial complexes, malls, star hotels, large commercial offices, etc, are hereby informed that, as per fire prevention and life-saving measures Section 3 (1), they shall keep the fire prevention measures installed in their buildings operational and in good condition.

A certificate (Form B) in the prescribed form from the licensed agency to this effect should be submitted to the Chief Fire Officer twice a year in the months of January and July at the Office of the Chief Fire Officer, Central Fire Station, Mahatma Phule Peth, New Timber Market, Pune – 411042. It should be noted that if the said (Form B) is not submitted in time and if any accident happens in the future, all the responsibility will remain with the owner of that building or the occupant using it.

In the said case, if the Form B is not submitted regarding the fire prevention measures in good condition within the prescribed period, according to Section 8 (2), Rule 11 (1) of the ‘Maharashtra Fire Prevention and Life Protection Measures Act, 2006’, the water supply & the power supply of the said establishments/buildings, which are not safe from the point of view of fire department, will be cut.

The list of licensed agents is available on the website maharashtrafireservice.gov.in. Also, those buildings which do not have the required fire-fighting system should install it immediately from the licensed agency and submit the certificate accordingly to the fire department office within the prescribed period or send it to [email protected].

Citizens are requested to take proper precautions and cooperate with the Pune Municipal Corporation fire department to ensure that the available fire-fighting system in the buildings is always in good condition and functional to prevent their lives and financial losses.
