Pune, April 27, 2026: The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has made it mandatory for all authorised advertisement hoardings across the city to display QR codes, enabling citizens to easily access detailed information about each hoarding.

The directive, issued by the civic body’s additional municipal commissioner, applies to all licensed hoardings in Pune. According to officials, the move aims to enhance transparency and ensure better monitoring of outdoor advertisements.

Madhav Jagtap, head of PMC’s sky hoarding department, stated that citizens will be able to scan the QR code using their mobile phones to access key details. “The QR code must be prominently displayed on the lower portion of every hoarding,” he said.

Once scanned, the QR code will provide information such as licence details, permissions granted by authorities, documents submitted by the hoarding owner, and other relevant records. This system is expected to help residents verify the legality of hoardings installed in their vicinity.

PMC officials clarified that hoarding owners will not be allowed to independently modify or update the information linked to the QR codes. Any changes must be carried out exclusively through the official PMC system to maintain data integrity and accountability.

The provision has been incorporated into the state’s sky hoarding policy framed by the Government of Maharashtra and is now being enforced at the city level.

The civic body has issued a strict warning that action will be initiated against hoarding owners who fail to comply with the directive. Enforcement measures will come into effect from May 27, 2026.

Authorities believe the initiative will improve regulation of hoardings and empower citizens with easy access to verified information.
