Pune: PMC Takes Over Planning Authority Role For 23 Merged Villages
Pune, February 13, 2026: The Maharashtra government has transferred planning authority powers for 23 merged villages from the Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority (PMRDA) to the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC), Minister of State for Urban Development Madhuri Misal announced on Thursday.
The villages were incorporated into PMC limits in 2021. An official notification issued by the state urban development department on Wednesday confirmed that PMC will now function as the sole planning authority for these areas.
According to Misal, the decision aims to streamline development processes, including approval of development plans, building permissions, infrastructure projects and civic service delivery. She said the move would eliminate administrative overlaps between PMC, PMRDA and the urban development department.
“The earlier special planning authority status has been withdrawn. All planning-related powers will now rest with the municipal corporation,” Misal said, adding that she had pursued the matter at the Mantralaya level to facilitate the transfer of authority.
The 23 villages covered under the decision are Mhalunge, Sus, Bavdhan Budruk, Kirkatwadi, Pisoli, Kondhwe-Dhavade, Kopre, Nanded, Khadakwasla, Manjari Budruk, Narhe, Holkarwadi, Autade-Handewadi, Wadachiwadi, Shewalewadi, Nandoshi, Sanasnagar, Mangevadi, Bhilarewadi, Gujar Nimbalkarwadi, Jambhulwadi, Kolewadi and Wagholi.
Describing the move as significant for Pune’s expansion, Misal said unified planning under PMC would support balanced urban growth, organised infrastructure development and improved living standards for residents in the newly merged areas.
