Pune : PMC to beautify 15 roads ahead of G-20 summit scheduled from June 12 to 29
Pune: The city of Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) gears up for the upcoming G-20 summit which is scheduled to be held from June 12 to 29. The summit is a major international gathering that brings together leaders of the world’s largest economies to discuss global economic and financial issues. To ensure that the city looks its best during the conference, the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has announced once again plans to beautify and paint 15 major roads in the city.
The beautification work will be undertaken by various departments of the PMC, with each department responsible for a particular road. The work will involve repairing and asphalting the roads, repairing pavements, and beautifying squares. Additionally, the employees of the construction, electricity, building, and road departments will be on hand to help with the work.
According to Sahebrao Dandge, superintendent engineer of the PMC road department, all major roads joining the city will be repaired ahead of the G-20 summit in June. The PMC has already received funds of ₹50 crores in January for the summit, and it is expected that further funds will be allocated for the beautification work. Along with concretization, the planting of trees and checking the condition of street lights will also be carried out during the beautification work.
The cost of beautifying the 15 selected roads is expected to be around ₹150 crores, and the PMC is expected to bear this cost. To help with the expenses, the PMC has taken the help of CSR (Corporate Social Responsibility) funds, and the state government had earlier sanctioned a special fund of ₹50 crores in January for G-20 Summit.
The conference will be held at the Hotel Hyatt on Nagar Road, along with Hotel Marriott. As the tourism conference is also included in the summit, the PMC is going all out to ensure that the city looks its best. Pune had previously hosted the first two-day G20 summit in January 2023, and this upcoming summit is the second phase. The previous conference was held at the Hotel Marriott on Senapati Bapat Road.
To ensure that the conference is a success, the PMC is leaving no stone unturned in its efforts to beautify the city. Earlier too PMc had worked hard to beautify the city during the G-20 summit in January for 2 days. Whereas, this time the G-20 summit meetings are of 17 days, which also includes a tourism conference so the preparations have been started a month prior.
