Pune : PMC’s drainage dept takes up pre-monsoon nala cleaning work
Pune : Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) is taking proactive measures ahead of the monsoon season to prevent waterlogging in the city. The PMC Commissioner has ordered the drainage department to undertake drainage / nala cleanup work, with a target completion date of June 7.
Shridhar Yeolekar, Superintendent Engineer of the Sewage, Maintenance and Repair Department, said, “The work involves cleaning critical spots where floodwater flows during the rainy season. The department has already completed 35% of the work, with the remaining to be completed by the June 7 deadline.”
He added, “To carry out the necessary drainage cleaning work, PMC has sanctioned a tender of ₹80 lakhs on a ward basis. The corporation is hoping that the work will prevent the flooding that Pune has experienced in the past during the monsoon season.”
Citizens are hoping that the debris removed from these nalas is also being lifted simultaneously as many times, this debris is kept on the banks of the nala / canal and gets washed away in the rains.
