Pune, 26 November 2025: The Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority (PMRDA) has taken significant steps to address severe traffic congestion in Hinjawadi, Wagholi and Shikrapur. Acting on the directives of Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, PMRDA Commissioner Dr. Yogesh Mhase held a comprehensive review meeting today at the Akurdi headquarters with department heads, revenue officials, police, MIDC, National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) and other concerned agencies. Citizens from Hinjawadi and Wagholi were also present and shared their concerns.

Road Repairs and Land Acquisition Review
Dr. Mhase instructed officials to ensure that all major roads are made pothole-free before December 5. The meeting included a detailed assessment of land acquisition for both proposed and existing roads in Hinjawadi. For the Hinjawadi–Pirangut–Ghotawade highway, the land acquisition proposal for the stretch between Hinjawadi Phase 1 (Wipro Circle) and Phase 3 (Maan), including the elevated corridor, will be submitted to the District Collector by MIDC.

Metro Line-3 Road Restoration
The Commissioner directed Metro officials to immediately fill potholes and restore the road beneath Metro Line 3 to its original condition with proper asphalting before handing it over to MIDC.

Permanent Traffic Signals and Dust Control Measures
PMRDA will fund installation of permanent traffic signals across Hinjawadi. Strict action has been ordered against RMC plants and construction contractors responsible for excessive dust and unsafe dumper operations.

New Underpasses and Service Roads
Underpasses and service roads along various locations of the Pune-Mumbai Ring Road are being planned and constructed on priority. The long-delayed land acquisition for the Bhugaon bypass road will be expedited, and the work order will be issued shortly, according to NHAI Executive Engineer Shruti Naik.

Alternate Roads for Wagholi and Shikrapur
To reduce congestion in Shikrapur and Wagholi, PMRDA will develop alternative routes. A parallel 30-metre-wide bypass road from Kharadi Check Post to Kesnand and Bakori has already been marked. Pune Municipal Corporation is responsible for developing the road. PMRDA and PMC departments will coordinate to resolve layout discrepancies and initiate work.

Commissioner Mhase also directed officials to plan a new bypass route connecting Kharadi–Kesnand–Lonikand to significantly reduce congestion in Wagholi and Kesnand.

Hinjewadi: Technical Reviews and Surveys
The Collector’s office informed that 18 land acquisition proposals have been submitted so far, with surveys completed for three. Dr. Mhase instructed PMRDA Director Avinash Patil and Prant Officer Surendra Navale to expedite remaining work within two days.

Survey of natural drains in Hinjawadi has been completed by Tandon Urban Solutions. PMRDA, MIDC engineers and the Water Resources Department will jointly submit a detailed report, including encroachments and obstructions.

CCTV Cameras for Hinjawadi
Responding to the request from the Hinjawadi Industrial Association, Dr. Mhase assured that PMRDA will provide funds for CCTV camera installation once estimates are submitted.

Dust and Road Cleanliness Issues
Citizens raised concerns about dust pollution caused by uncovered RMC plants and construction sites. Regional Transport Office officials were instructed to ensure that all trucks are covered. MIDC officials were directed to begin road cleaning immediately.

Bhugaon Bypass Road Progress
Land acquisition for the 850-metre-long and 18-metre-wide Bhugaon bypass road is being handled by PMRDA. Tendering is in its final stage, and work orders will be issued next week. Adjustments may be made to road alignment following objections by local farmers, with compensation-related discussions also underway.

Major Road Plans for Shikrapur–Wagholi
Key upcoming projects to ease congestion in Shikrapur include:
