Pune, April 30, 2026: A crucial joint disaster management meeting was held at the headquarters of the Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority in Akurdi to ensure monsoon preparedness across the region, particularly in the Hinjawadi–Maan IT Park belt.

The meeting was chaired by Metropolitan Commissioner Dr. Abhijit Chaudhari, who issued strict directives to prevent waterlogging and civic disruptions during the upcoming monsoon season.

Key Decisions and Directives

Drainage and Flood Prevention Measures:
Authorities have been instructed to immediately clear all blocked drains, remove encroachments, and widen natural streams to ensure smooth water flow in the Hinjawadi–Maan IT Park and adjoining areas.

Deadline for Completion:
All pre-monsoon infrastructure and drainage-related works must be completed by May 31, 2026, under any circumstances.

Strict Accountability Measures:
Officials warned that any incidents of waterlogging or disaster due to poor planning will result in strict action against responsible officers under the Disaster Management Act.

Inter-Agency Coordination Ordered

The meeting stressed the need for coordinated efforts among multiple agencies, including:

  • MIDC
  • PMRDA
  • NHAI
  • Local Gram Panchayats
  • Irrigation Department

All departments have been directed to work in close coordination for immediate implementation of the measures.

The meeting was attended by petitioner Sachin Londhe of the Unclog Hinjawadi initiative, Additional Commissioner K. Manjulakshmi, Development Permission Director Avinash Patil, Joint Commissioner (Land & Property) Poonam Mehta, and DCP (Traffic) Vivek Patil, along with senior officials from the Forest Department, Zilla Parishad, NHAI, and other concerned departments.

Focus on Hinjawadi IT Hub

The Hinjawadi–Maan IT Park area, a major IT hub near Pune, has faced recurring water logging issues during previous monsoons. Authorities aim to prevent disruptions to daily life and business operations through timely execution of planned works.

The meeting concluded with a strong emphasis on accountability and preparedness to ensure a smooth and safe monsoon season for residents and commuters.
