Pune, February 5: In an effort to tackle traffic congestion in Pune and surrounding areas, the Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority (PMRDA) has intensified its crackdown on illegal constructions. Over the past seven days, a total of 416 unauthorized structures obstructing roadways were demolished by PMRDA’s enforcement teams.

The action follows directives from Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar, emphasizing the need to reduce traffic congestion. In collaboration with the National Highways Authority and the Police Commissionerate, a large-scale demolition drive was launched in areas like Wagholi, Kesnand, and Avhalwadi.

Since January 29, PMRDA has been actively removing illegal structures, including shops, commercial units, RCC structures, boundary walls, temporary sheds, and hoardings, with operations continuing until February 4, 2025. Residents have welcomed these efforts, as they have significantly eased traffic congestion.

Previously, PMRDA had conducted similar large-scale actions at Laxmi Chowk, Hinjewadi (January 17, 2025), and Navale Bridge (December 23, 2024). The authority has warned that unauthorized constructions in Pune’s metropolitan limits will face strict legal action if not voluntarily removed, as per Deputy Collector and Joint Commissioner Dr. Deepti Suryavanshi-Patil.
