Pune Police Commissioner Takes Aggressive Approach, 159 Criminals Apprehended

Pune: In a bid to tackle the growing incidents of vehicle vandalism and terrorizing acts within the city Pune’s Police Commissioner, Ritesh Kumar, has adopted a firm stance against criminal activities. As per the information, a comprehensive list of culprits has been compiled, leading to preemptive measures being taken against them. In a recent midnight operation conducted on Monday, the police successfully apprehended 159 criminals.

The city has been plagued by gangs responsible for damaging vehicles and spreading fear among the residents. In response, Police Commissioner Ritesh Kumar has issued strict directives to the Crime Branch and all police stations, urging them to take decisive action against these criminals.

Consequently, the crime branch and teams from various police stations meticulously searched 455 hotels, lodges, dhabas, and other establishments. Additionally, they conducted thorough screenings of 85 public places, including bus and railway stations. The combing operation was conducted from 10 pm on July 3 to 2 am on July 4.

During this special operation, the police arrested 11 suspects and seized one pistol, two live cartridges, and ten weapons under the Arms Act. Warrants have been issued against the culprits by police stations in Shivaji Nagar, Bharti Vidyapeeth, Khadki, Vishrantwadi, Chatuhshrungi, Chandan Nagar, Yerwada, Airport, Lonikand, Hadapsar, Mundhwa, and Kondhwa.

Moreover, the city’s police stations set up 28 checkpoints and inspected 3,282 suspicious motorists. Out of these, 475 individuals were penalized, resulting in fines totalling Rs. 1,22,000.

The traffic department also scrutinized 1,129 suspected drivers, issuing fines amounting to four lakh rupees to 496 of them. Furthermore, the crime branch took action against 13 criminals.

Under the guidance of Police Commissioner Ritesh Kumar, the operation was carried out with the cooperation of Joint Commissioner of Police Sandeep Karnik, Additional Commissioner (East) Praveen Patil, Additional Commissioner (West) Ranjan Kumar Sharma, Additional Commissioner (Crime) Ramnath Pokle, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Crime) Amol Zende, and Deputy Commissioner of Police (Traffic) Vijayakumar Magar, along with other Deputy Commissioners of Police.
