Pune: Retesh Kumaarr, Commissioner of Police, Pune City, has convened a meeting with the administration of Savitribai Phule Pune University and various student organizations on Saturday to address the dispute between them.  The university administration and the police department have taken serious notice of the multiple protests that have been taking place on campus during the past week.

Recently, classes occurred between two student organizations namely the Students’ Federation of India (SFI) and the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) on October 31 in which a student volunteer suffered head injuries. The organizations filed cross complaints at the Chaturshringi Police Station. When this incident was fresh, objectionable writing about Prime Minister Narendra Modi was discovered on the hostel wall of the SPPU hostel. This led to a protest by the city unit of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). During the agitation, SFI workers also shouted slogans, resulting in violent clashes between them and ABVP.

Following these incidents, the university administration swiftly put severe restrictions on

entering the university campus and visitors were also banned by the police.

Authorities drew up rules for student organizations in response to the incidents.

As a result, Kumaarr has scheduled a meeting with all student organizations on Saturday, November 18, at Pune University to discuss and prepare the standard operating procedures (SOPs) that these organizations must follow. The administration and student organizations will provide suggestions that will be used to prepare the standard operating procedures. The Vice-Chancellor of Savitribai Phule Pune University as well as other high-ranking officials will be present in the meeting.
