Pune Police Invoke MCOCA Against Tipu Pathan Gang In Another Land Grab Case
Pune, November 22, 2025: The Pune city police have once again invoked the Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act (MCOCA) against the notorious Tipu Pathan gang, following a fresh complaint of land grabbing.
The FIR, registered at Kalepadal police station on October 12, was filed by a 31-year-old woman from Mumbai who owns a 1,290 sq ft plot in Sayyad Nagar, Hadapsar. According to the FIR, Rizwan alias Tipu Pathan, 34, a resident of Mohammadwadi, along with his gang members, allegedly took unlawful possession of her land, built a tin shed, and rented it out. When confronted, the gang reportedly demanded Rs 25 lakh and threatened to kill her.
Police have booked Pathan and 12 gang members under multiple sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), including extortion, criminal intimidation, trespass, wrongful restraint, unlawful assembly, and rioting, according to a press release by Senior Police Inspector Mansingh Patil of Kalepadal police station.
Pathan and several gang members are currently in jail. Over the years, Pathan has been booked in around 30 serious cases, including murder, attempted murder, and extortion.
The police crackdown on Pathan intensified after a video of him allegedly hurling money during a qawwali programme in Pune went viral in April. In the same month, Pathan, his brother Ejaz Pathan, and other associates were arrested in another land grab and extortion case lodged by a different woman at Kalepadal police station. Following their arrest, the police paraded Pathan and his aides in Hadapsar on April 12 and subsequently invoked MCOCA against the gang.
In June, Shahrukh alias Atti Rahim, a gang member wanted in the current case, was gunned down by police during an encounter in Solapur.
In September, in a joint operation, the Pune City Police and Pune Municipal Corporation demolished an illegal construction by Pathan at the Khwaja Manzil building in Sayyad Nagar using a bulldozer.
This latest FIR highlights Pune policeās continued efforts to curb organized crime and dismantle the Tipu Pathan gangās operations across the city.
