Pune: A habitual fraudster who exploited women on matrimonial websites has been arrested by the Kalepadal Police from Indore, Madhya Pradesh. The accused, Aman Premlal Verma (38), a resident of Jammu and Kashmir, was wanted in a case registered under IPC Sections 376, 376(2)(N), and 420 at Kalepadal Police Station (Case No. 1919/2024).

Verma contacted the complainant through a matrimonial site and gained her trust by falsely promising marriage. He then established a physical relationship with her and later defrauded her of approximately ₹45 lakh through online transfers and cash transactions without fulfilling his promise of marriage.

During the investigation, it was revealed that Verma is a habitual offender who creates fake profiles on social media and matrimonial sites. He befriends women, lures them with false marriage promises, blackmails them after establishing intimacy, and extorts money from them. Police records show that similar cases are registered against him in Delhi, Faridabad, Bhopal, and Indore.

Based on intelligence inputs, Kalepadal Police received information that Verma was going to be in Indore. Acting swiftly, the investigation team sought approval from senior officials and coordinated with the local police. Using technical surveillance, they successfully apprehended Verma in Indore and brought him to Pune. He was produced in court and has been remanded to police custody until February 10, 2025.

The operation was carried out under the guidance of Pune Police Commissioner Amitesh Kumar, Joint Commissioner Ranjan Kumar Sharma, Additional Commissioner Manoj Patil, and Deputy Commissioner of Police Rajkumar Shinde. Assistant Commissioner of Police Dhanyakumar Godse and Senior Police Inspector Manasing Patil supervised the operation, led by Assistant Police Inspector Vilas Sutar, Police Havaldar Yuvraj Dudhal, and Police Constable Shrikrishna Khokale.
