Pune Police Roll Out ‘Drug-Free Pune’ Mobile App, Step Up Citywide Anti-Narcotics Campaign
Pune, April 30, 2026: The Pune City Police organised a public awareness programme under the “Drug-Free Ward, Drug-Free Pune” campaign at Annabhau Sathe Hall in Bibwewadi on Tuesday evening. The initiative was conducted under the guidance of Police Commissioner Amitesh Kumar and Deputy Commissioner of Police (Zone 2).
The event, held between 7 pm and 8 pm, was organised in coordination with Pune Municipal Corporation wards 20 and 21. Around 700 to 750 citizens attended the programme, along with senior police officials and civic representatives.

At the start of the event, Police Commissioner Amitesh Kumar inaugurated a specially designed awareness vehicle equipped with videos and posters aimed at educating citizens about the dangers of drug abuse. A selfie point themed around the “Drug-Free Pune” campaign was also set up to encourage public participation.
Deputy Commissioner of Police Milind Mohite conducted the programme and highlighted the harmful effects of narcotics on individuals and families. Additional Commissioner of Police (Crime) Manoj Patil announced the launch of the “Drug-Free Pune” mobile application, developed to help citizens report drug-related activities such as sale, consumption, transportation, and manufacturing.
During the event, civic representatives emphasised that eliminating drug abuse is a shared responsibility. They pointed out that increasing use of technology has made drug trafficking more complex and warned about its growing impact on the youth.
Speakers also urged parents to stay connected with their children and be aware of their activities. They stressed that building a strong and healthy society must begin at home and called for vigilance against anti-social elements.
Addressing the gathering, Police Commissioner Amitesh Kumar said that public participation is crucial for the success of the campaign, especially given the gap between Pune’s growing population and available police manpower. He encouraged citizens to actively use the mobile app to share information, assuring strict action against offenders.
During the programme, four police personnel were honoured for their bravery and outstanding service, including saving lives and apprehending armed suspects. Each was awarded ₹25,000 and felicitated by the Police Commissioner.
The event concluded with a vote of thanks, reinforcing the collective commitment towards making Pune a drug-free city.
