In a decisive response to allegations of serious misconduct, the Pune Police have placed three personnel from the Wagholi police station under suspension following claims that they extorted money from an IT professional by threatening to implicate him and a female acquaintance in a fabricated “sex racket” case.

The suspended officers have been identified as Head Constable Kiran Abdagire, along with Police Constables Ganesh Khade and Kiran Kamble. According to the official suspension order issued by Deputy Commissioner of Police (Zone 7) Somay Munde, the incident occurred late on the night of April 2, 2026, in Wagholi.

As per the inquiry, PCs Khade and Kamble initially responded to a noise complaint at the ‘Z Residence’ society, where neighbors reported loud sounds and expressed suspicion about a girl being present in a young man’s room. Rather than following proper procedures, the two beat marshals took the 24‑year‑old IT professional to the Wagholi police station. There, Head Constable Abdagire is accused of joining in and intimidating the man.

At the station, the officers allegedly assaulted the victim and used threats to coerce him, warning that they would:

  • File a criminal case against him alleging involvement in a “sex racket”
  • Inform his family and relatives of the alleged offence
  • Ensure his termination from his IT job

Under intense pressure and fear of reputational and professional damage, the young man was compelled to pay the officers. Investigators allege that PC Ganesh Khade displayed a PhonePe QR code linked to “Omkar Auto Garage” and forced the victim to transfer ₹10,000 to that account. Sources also indicate that the female acquaintance was brought to the police station during this episode.

Once the victim lodged a formal complaint about the incident, Pune Police launched an internal inquiry into the conduct of the three staffers. Commissioner of Police Amitesh Kumar strongly condemned the actions, calling them “undisciplined and irresponsible” and saying they harm public trust in law enforcement.

Following the inquiry, DCP Somay Munde officially issued suspension orders on April 7, 2026, under the provisions of the Maharashtra Police Act, 1951. While suspended, the three officers are to be attached to Police Headquarters and are barred from engaging in any private work.
