In a series of decisive moves, the Pune Police have stepped up action against two popular clubs, Unicorn House and Elrow, situated in the busy locality of Kalyani Nagar with the Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Zone 4, Pune writing an assertive letter to the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) & Excise Department seeking cancellation of both the clubs’ licenses.

Speaking to Pune Pulse, Shashikant Borate, DCP Zone 4, Pune Police, said “I had written to the Excise Department and PMC regarding cancellation of licenses of Unicorn House and Elrow Club in Kalyani Nagar in the beginning of August 2023. Every time the police go there & issue cases. So, instead of simply registering cases, direct cancellation of licenses of both the clubs is requested through the letter.”

As per information, both the establishments have been visited by over 20 police officers in the past year alone, with several cases being filed against them. These charges are mainly due to ongoing problems with sound pollution and late night operations.

In particular, Elrow has two cases pending against them, while Unicorn House has a case pending against them as well.

The frequency of these cases shows a clear pattern of non-compliance with noise levels and operating hours regulations.

A notable case involves a breach of IPC Section 188, which highlights the pubs’ disregard for official directives.

Therefore, instead of simply registering cases, Pune Police has decided to seek direct revoking of the establishments’ licenses to maintain peace & harmony in Kalyani Nagar.

Pune Pulse tried to contact PMC Commissioner & Excise Department officials but couldn’t connect.
