Pune: Residents of Kondhwa Budruk are in distress as a lot of potholes lie on the road near Kothari School, HM Royal Society and more for a long time.

Speaking to Pune Pulse, Khozim Yusuf Nagarwala, Resident of Kondhwa Budruk, said, “The pothole issue has become very severe in our area. Commuters keep falling, slipping, vehicles almost collide due to the potholes. This menace has been there for a long time but since 6 to 8 months, the pothole issue has exacerbated a lot. Garbage keeps lying in the footpaths with no one to look into this seriously. Proper speed breakers also must be present in our area to prevent speedy driving.”

Sayyad Shoaib, Resident of Kondhwa Budruk said, “A lot of potholes are present in the area. The potholes create problems daily and are also a threat to the traffic. We have made several complaints to the PMC but they aren’t listening at all. This has become a headache.”

Chhabil Patel, Secretary, NCP Pune said, “We had staged a protest near Kothari School against the pothole problem along with various other issues. We have given numerous letters to the authorities to resolve this. We have even requested to build a proper speed breaker near the school to control vehicle speed as school students keep moving around the school. Hence, due to speeding vehicles & speed breakers not being there, any accident might happen. But the PMC officials are simply giving fake promises to resolve the pothole issue & building a speedbreaker. Nothing is happening in reality. Now, the only option left is staging a protest at the Ward Office. We might do it soon.”

Alamgir Jamadar, Head, Kondhwa Budruk Association said, “There are hundreds of potholes on the road opposite Mata Ramabai Ambedkar Fire Brigade Station to HM Royal, Kothari School, PMC vehicle depot and Shobha Carnation Society. School children, 4000 citizens, and hundreds of PMC vehicles travel on this road. Miscalculation of road depth leads to accidents. Water does not drain and accumulates during the rainy season. Hence, please make this road pothole-free. Speed breakers on the road near Kothari National School are dilapidated. There is no white marking on the speed breaker. As a result, accidents happen because the drivers do not anticipate the speed breaker.”

Sidram Patil, Junior Engineer, PMC said, “Around next week, it is likely that we will receive the required materials from the PMC after which the works of filling potholes & building speedbreaker will begin. The existing materials had been used for resolving road issues at Katraj-Kondhwa Road.”
