Pune: According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), the upcoming winter season from December to February is expected to be milder than usual. The IMD has also predicted a decrease in the frequency and intensity of cold waves in most parts of north, northwest, central, east, and northeast India during this period.

As per the information provided, during the upcoming winter season, most parts of the country can expect above-normal minimum temperatures, except certain areas in central and northwest India where below-normal maximum temperatures are expected.

As per the information provided, the forecast for the upcoming month and the winter season as a whole predicts warmer temperatures than usual, similar to those of November. In recent months, a majority of the country has experienced temperatures that are higher than usual.

According to data from the Met Department, November saw the third highest maximum and minimum temperatures for the month since 1901, which is when IMD began keeping records.

The forecast for the upcoming winter season (December 2023 to February 2024) suggests that most regions of the country can expect above-average minimum temperatures. Additionally, many parts of the country are likely to experience above-average maximum temperatures, except certain areas in central and neighbouring northwest India where normal to below-average maximum temperatures are expected.

According to the forecast, there is a higher probability of above-normal rainfall in the majority of the northwest region, as well as in the adjoining areas of central and east India, and certain areas of extreme south peninsular India. Conversely, below-normal rainfall is expected in numerous parts of northeast India, north peninsular India, and the adjoining areas of central India.
