Pune- In honor of pride month, the Pune Pride Parade is set to paint JM Road in colors of inclusivity this Sunday. The Parade will start from Chhatrapati Sambhaji Garden on JM Road at 3:30 pm, the event includes parading through the street and culminating in front of Fergusson College gate on FC Road. The Parade is being organized by various LGBTQIA+ groups in collaboration with NGOs.

The event will also include talks by different members of the community and the distribution of pamphlets to bystanders in order to raise awareness about their rights. According to Shyam Konnur, the founder of MIST, an organization that works for the advocacy of LGBTQIA+ rights, Other big cities like Mumbai and Bangalore have Pride Parades on a grand scale every year and they did not want Pune to miss out on this inclusivity event.

The Parade is expecting around 500 people to participate. They have prepared an auto decorated with the Pride Flag along with dhol-taasha. Before the main event, on Saturday, a poster competition and a badminton tournament have been prepared. Vallabh Jagtap, the founder of Pune Queer Sports Group, stated that the primary goal behind organizing a badminton tournament is to provide a safe space for all members and take a step towards healing their childhood trauma. This will be the perfect opportunity to encourage them to be themselves and have fun.
