The Asian Throwball Championship concluded recently with host nation Malaysia emerging victorious. India, led by Captain Sagar Hogade, secured the silver medal.

The six participating countries – India, Malaysia, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Pakistan, and Singapore – competed in a league format, with each team facing the others. India dominated the league stage, winning all their matches. However, Malaysia edged past them in the thrilling final.

This marks Sagar Hogade’s fifth international medal in throwball. In an exclusive interview with Pune Pulse, Sagar shared his journey. “This is my fifth international tour, but the most significant struggle I faced was financial. Securing sponsorship for nutrition and fitness was challenging.”

Sagar, a professional cricketer, discovered throwball by chance. “In army school, teachers encouraged me to play throwball due to my height. I learned quickly and got selected for the state tournament, followed by the national tournament in 2017. Just two years later, I became captain for the Asian tournament.”

Hailing from Pune’s Warje Sinhagad Road, Sagar proudly represents India at the international level.

Sagar’s passion and perseverance serve as an inspiration to aspiring athletes.
