Pune: The residents & commuters near Dolphin Chowk of Bibwewadi are in distress as the road condition has become very bad.

Speaking to Pune Pulse, Naresh Jain, an office owner near Dolphin Chowk, Bibwewadi said, ” The road condition near Dolphin Chowk has worsened. Road work is going on which is not getting completed. A lot of gravel (khadi) simply lies on the road without any kind of attention. The condition has remained the same for almost 1.5 months. Now, due to rain, the road condition is getting from bad to worse. The entire road is filled with numerous potholes, making driving a nightmare. It feels like I am not travelling in a huge city like Pune but in a small village due to such terrible road conditions.”

Prachi Laghate, a resident of Chintamani Nagar, Bibwewadi said, “Due to the road work going on for some time now, people simply travel on the wrong side while coming towards areas like Lake Town society, Chintamani Nagar etc.”

Vijay Kulkarni, Chief Engineer (Road), PMC said, “Already, the road refurbishing work is going on in Bibwewadi which will end soon. Now, the tender for the repairing & concretization work of the entire road near Dolphin Chowk in Bibwewadi is floated. Due to rain, we have not started that work as of now. However, as soon as the rain stops, we will immediately start the work which will soon be completed.”

Bala Oswal, Former Corporator, Bibwewadi said, “There are various contractors already there near Dolphin Chowk for road work, footpath work, & water pipeline work. Only the footpath work & water pipeline work is going on. But the road work isn’t done at all. Currently, there is no corporator for the area. The current road near Dolphin Chowk is simply dug up. Nothing is done. If the PMC is going to start concretizing work on that road after the rain stops, then why is that road dug up from now itself? If the PMC doesn’t do the road repair work soon, then they would have to pay for it severely.”
