On January 20 (Saturday), a group of Kalyani Nagar residents called Joggers Park Group held a protest at Late Damodar Raoji Galande (Patil) Garden in Kalyani Nagar against the removal of flag poles from 13 gardens in Pune.

Speaking to Pune Pulse, a protestor, requesting anonymity said, “Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has suddenly removed flag poles from 13 gardens in Pune without giving any kind of prior notice to anyone. The PMC says that they have removed the poles according to a Central Government order. As the entire country is preparing for 26 January i.e. Republic Day celebrations, the PMC removed the poles without any notice. The Republic Day celebrations & programs are held on a grand scale in Kalyani Nagar for several years. However, the PMC blatantly removed the poles, so a protest was held at Late Damodar Raoji Galande (Patil) Garden in Kalyani Nagar.

Yogesh Mulik, Former Corporator, Vadgoan Sheri, informed that the PMC has reinstalled the flag poles.

As per information, the protest began at around 10 to 10:30 am on January 20 which lasted for 2 hours. Around 20 to 25 people were present during the protest. The residents demanded that the PMC must reinstall all the removed poles immediately.

The garden department officials remained unavailable to comment on the issue.
