Over 100 trees in Metro Eco Park in Ravet have been declared dead due to lack of water for the trees. Therefore, Metro Eco Park Bachao Samiti will go on a Saakhli Uposhan (Chain Hunger Strike) from Tuesday (23rd January) to save the park.

Speaking to Pune Pulse, Vikas Badolia, Member of Metro Eco Park Bachao Samiti, said “In 2017, the 5 acre land was handed over to Maha Metro by the then PCNTDA (Pimpri Chinchwad New Town Development Authority) in order to erect the Metro Eco Park which was done by Maha Metro. However, in 2022, the land was declared barren & hence was handed over to Election Commission for erection of a building of Election Commission. Firstly, a park exists on that land, Maha Metro has claimed that they have spent around Rs 3 crore to construct the eco park, there are 1000 trees & so much green cover in the park and much more. Still, why shall a building be constructed by cutting the trees?”

Vikas Badolia further continued “A Ready Mix Concrete (RMC) plant was built on a plot nearby the eco park without permission. Due to this, a lot of dust has been entering the park which proved to be hazardous for the park visitors. Also, the park has been sealed off due to which maintenance is not happening at all, resulting in the murder of 140 trees of the park as they didn’t get any water for a long time. Hence, we are organizing this Saakhli Uposhan.”

Badolia further shared that the Uposhan (Strike) will begin from 23rd January (Tuesday) from 9 am to 6 pm every day till indefinite time. Every day, 1 person will sit for the Uposhan for 3 hours. In this way, 3 people will sit for the Uposhan daily.
