On Sunday afternoon, January 21, an 18-year-old student from Kharadi drowned in the Mutha River close to Panshet Crematorium after jumping into the water to save his sister and another girl.

The two girls were saved when other nearby residents joined the rescue effort, but they were unable to find the young man, who was identified as Dnyaneshwar Manale.

Following the involvement of a PMRDA fire brigade team in the rescue effort, his body was found approximately 25 meters from the scene. Manale, his sister, and two other friends were riding on two motorcycles to go to Panshet Dam for a picnic, according to a fire officer.

The officer went on to say that while travelling to the dam, they made a stop close to the crematorium and proceeded to the Mutha River. At that point, the two girls began to take photos on the riverbank. However, they slipped and fell into the river.
