Pune: The directive issued by the district collector to restrict heavy traffic on the Kirkatwadi-Nandoshi road during specific hours in the morning and evening appears to be ineffective, as Kirkatwadi and Nandoshi residents are troubled due to traffic congestion caused by the heavy vehicular movement.

This traffic congestion is affecting the daily routine of employees, schoolchildren, and residents alike. In 2018, in response to complaints from public representatives and citizens, orders were issued to prohibit heavy traffic on the Kirkatwadi-Nandoshi road until 11 a.m. and after 5 p.m.

As per the information received, this directive has not been consistently enforced over the past five years. Consequently, citizens continue to endure traffic snarls due to the heavy vehicular movement.

While talking to Pune Pulse, Narendra Hagawane, Kirkatwadi Development Forum said,” Dumpers travelling on the road cause traffic congestion for long hours. Huge queues are observed on the road, causing difficulties for school buses to travel. School buses often say that students had to be dropped off near Phata due to traffic congestion.”

Another resident, Yogita Bagnikar added, ”Residents are worried due to growing traffic congestion. Many accidents have taken place in this area, but this issue has not been taken into notice.”

Another resident, Dhananjay Chavat, added, ‘Residents are facing the brunt of tragic congestion every day. Dumpers, school buses, and PMPML travel at the same time, making the matter even worse. I have posted several videos and photos regarding traffic congestion, but no response has been given from the authorities. Despite collectors’ orders, dumpers continue to travel even before and after assigned times.”

While talking to Pune Pulse, Sachin Wangade, Police Inspector, Haveli added, ”Road inspection will be carried out thoroughly. Action will be taken against dumpers if they are seen violating laws.”
