Pune Ring Road Realignment To Save ₹800 Crore, MSRDC Alters Route

Pune | April 30, 2025 — In a major development concerning the Pune Ring Road project, the Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation (MSRDC) has modified the alignment of the circular route near Kasar Amboli to ease traffic congestion in Pune and Pimpri-Chinchwad.

The change comes in response to obstacles posed by buildings from an existing construction project, and the new route is expected to save the government around ₹800 crore. Officials assure that the new alignment will not cause any inconvenience to residents.

Due to the presence of structures from a large real estate project in the originally planned path, MSRDC proposed a new route that bypasses these buildings. A formal proposal has been sent to the state government for approval.

The revised alignment in Kasar Amboli — located in the western stretch of the ring road — eliminates the need for demolishing parts of a residential project comprising over 300 housing units. These units were found to be directly in the path of the original ring road alignment.

Residents and flat buyers had demanded compensation from MSRDC, some seeking up to four times the market price of their units. A case related to this demand is currently pending in court. If the MSRDC were to fulfill these demands, the compensation would have amounted to nearly ₹800 crore — a financially unviable solution, according to officials.

In court, MSRDC stated that only a small portion of the project overlaps with the ring road’s earlier alignment and paying such a large sum is unjustified. Therefore, the agency has opted to change the alignment and redirect the ring road next to the construction project, avoiding the contested structures altogether. This stance has also been formally submitted in the ongoing legal proceedings.
