In a promising development for Pune’s transportation infrastructure, multiple bids have been received for the construction of a 137 km Pune Ring Road.

The Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation (MSRDC) has successfully attracted participation from 28 infrastructure companies in the tendering process, indicating significant progress for the project. With an estimated cost of Rs 34,000 crore, the Pune Ring Road aims to enhance connectivity within the region and alleviate traffic congestion by providing a convenient and efficient alternative route.

The proposed Pune Ring Road will serve as an access-controlled expressway encircling the city, allowing motorists to bypass traffic congestion and reducing travel time between Mumbai and Pune. This vital transportation link will not only benefit commuters but also enhance connectivity to the Khed, Purandar, Bhor, Mulshi, and Maval talukas, opening up new avenues for economic growth and development.

The land acquisition process for the western part of the first phase of the ring road is set to commence soon, as the MSRDC has initiated the necessary procedures in collaboration with the district administration. In the coming days, project victims in 36 villages in the west and four villages in the east will be notified, allowing them to submit consent forms by July 30.

Under the revised rules, the MSRDC has established new rates for land acquisition, ensuring fairness and transparency in the process. A comprehensive review meeting, led by Collector Dr. Rajesh Deshmukh, provided valuable insights into the affected villages and their re-evaluated land values.

Dr. Deshmukh emphasized the adherence to state government directives, resulting in a reassessment of the affected villages in both the western and eastern regions. A total of 804 hectares of land will be acquired, affecting around 2,992 account holders. To incentivize voluntary consent, those who provide self-consent will receive an additional 25 percent remuneration.

The district committee has been entrusted with the responsibility of re-evaluating lands in the eastern villages and submitting a report by July 20. Furthermore, the rates for 32 affected villages on the west side of the ring road have been fixed, and the final rates for the remaining 42 villages on the east side are expected to be determined by July 20.

Collector Dr. Rajesh Deshmukh emphasized the importance of gaining the affected people’s trust and consent during the land acquisition process. To facilitate this, a notice will be issued to landholders, followed by village-wise camps to ensure effective communication and engagement with the local community.
