Pune: Road Work From Mohammadwadi To Handewadi Expected To Complete In 6 Months Amid Delays
Pune residents are facing significant disruptions due to the prolonged road construction from Delhi Public School in Mohammadwadi to Handewadi. The project, ongoing since November of last year, has led to persistent traffic jams and safety concerns for pedestrians. One side of the road remains blocked, worsening daily commutes for locals.
In response to growing frustration, Pune Pulse facilitated a meeting on August 12 between residents and Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) officials at Ababil Plaza. Residents, including Ashish Gupta from Nyati Enclave, expressed dissatisfaction with the slow progress. Gupta highlighted the inconvenience caused, especially with the road being dug up, which hampers pedestrian access and affects families.

Alok Tiwari from Handewadi and others have voiced concerns on social media, demanding faster completion of the roadwork. Residents emphasize the need for proper stormwater drainage, footpaths, and timely completion to ensure safety and convenience.
Gautam Gavand, Junior Engineer at the PMC road department, explained that delays are partly due to water accumulation from nearby streams. He assured that while work on the drainage line is complete, reconstruction of the road is set to begin soon. Gavand noted that the project is expected to be finished by December 2024, barring further delays. Despite technical and weather-related challenges, PMC is working to expedite the process.
