Pune RTO records increase in revenue from collection of fines from fancy number plates The Regional Transport Office (RTO) in Pune saw a remarkable surge in revenue during the fiscal year 2023-24, thanks largely to the popularity of fancy number plates. 

From April 1, 2023, to March 31, 2024, the RTO collected a whopping total of 49,82,84,738 rupees. Among this sum, 44,90,70,500 rupees came from the sale of fancy number plates, while auctions contributed 4,92,14,238 rupees.

This surge represents a substantial increase of 11,63,19,243 rupees compared to the previous fiscal year, 2022-23. According to officials at the Pune RTO, certain numbers like 1, 9, 90, 909, and 999 remain highly coveted in the city.
The remarkable rise in revenue underscores the growing demand for personalized vehicle identification, reflecting a trend towards individualized vehicle customization among Pune’s motorists. 

Fancy number plates have become a symbol of prestige and uniqueness for many vehicle owners, driving up their appeal and value.
With this surge in revenue, the Pune RTO is not only meeting financial targets but also witnessing the evolving preferences of the city’s residents. 

As the desire for customization continues to grow, it’s likely that fancy number plates will remain an important  avenue for revenue generation for the future.
