PUNE: In a significant drug bust, the Pune Rural Police seized cannabis worth ₹56 lakhs from a vehicle near Kamshet on August 22, 2024. Acting on a tip-off, Inspector Ravindra Patil of Kamshet Police Station coordinated a successful operation to intercept the illegal transportation of cannabis.

The operation was initiated after receiving confidential information that a consignment of cannabis was being transported from Mavalgaon to a new village near Lonavala in a silver Verna car. Following instructions from the Sub Divisional Police Officer of Lonavala Division, two police teams were formed to execute the operation.

During the surveillance, the police spotted the suspect vehicle, a silver Verna with the registration number MH/14/GY/0550, approaching the village on the old highway. Upon interception and search of the vehicle, officers found four individuals and a substantial quantity of cannabis, weighing approximately 98 kilograms.

The suspects, identified as Abhishek Anil Nagwade (24), Pradip Narayan Namdas (25), Yogesh Rameshalgad (32), and Vaibhav Sanjeev Anna Chede (23), all residents of Karegaon, were arrested on the spot. The cannabis seized was valued at ₹48.5 lakhs, with the vehicle, three mobile handsets, and other items bringing the total value of the confiscated goods to ₹56 lakhs.

The arrested individuals have been charged under various sections of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act, 1985, including Section 8(c) and 20(c). Inspector Ravindra Patil is leading the investigation, under the guidance of Superintendent of Police Pankaj Deshmukh and Additional Superintendent of Police Ramesh Chopde and assistant superintendent of police Sathya Sai Karthik. The operation also involved several officers and personnel from the Kamshet Police Station, including Police Sub-Inspector Shubham Chavan and other team members.
