The Pune Rural Police are set to launch special units at local police stations dedicated to handling complaints from women and children. The initiative aims to provide a safer and more supportive environment for victims to report crimes. The first such unit will be established at the Daund police station, as announced by Superintendent of Police (Pune Rural), Pankaj Deshmukh.

These specialized units will focus on addressing crimes against women and children, with a commitment to ensuring their security and comfort. SP Deshmukh noted that many women and children are hesitant to approach police stations due to overcrowding and fear. “We will start with Daund and, based on the need, increase the number of female officers,” Deshmukh stated.

At a recent meeting held at the Daund police station, it was also proposed to install CCTV cameras in key areas of Daund City to enhance public safety. The meeting was attended by senior officials, including Additional Superintendent of Police (Baramati Division) Ganesh Biradar, Deputy Superintendent of Daund Bapurao Dadas, and Inspector Santosh Doke.

Other key initiatives announced include activating a Nirbhaya Squad to prevent harassment, appointing a female Assistant Police Inspector to lead the squad, adding personnel for traffic management, cracking down on illegal liquor sales, and strengthening efforts to curb thefts in the area.
