In a late-night incident on Pune’s Law College Road, sandalwood thieves attacked patrolling police officers. The confrontation occurred around 2:30 AM when officers, including Constable Tambe from Deccan Police Station, were on patrol and noticed suspicious activity. The thieves were attempting to cut down a sandalwood tree in a nearby society.

As the officers tried to intervene, the group of five to six thieves attacked them, injuring Constable Tambe. In self-defense, Tambe fired two shots from his pistol, but the thieves managed to escape under the cover of darkness.

A case has been registered against the thieves, and further investigation is ongoing. Sandalwood theft has been rampant in the city, with thieves not only targeting valuable trees but also threatening residents. Recent cases include incidents where thieves broke into homes and intimidated homeowners to steal sandalwood trees.
