Pune: Shared Vows, Shared Stage: Hindu-Muslim Weddings Celebrate Harmony On One Stage
In a rare and heartwarming display of communal harmony, two couples from different faiths — Hindu and Muslim — shared a single wedding stage after heavy rains disrupted the original plan for one of the ceremonies in Pune.
The spontaneous joint celebration unfolded at Alankaran Lawns near the SRPF grounds in Wanawadi on Tuesday evening. Narendra Galande and Sankruti Kawade were set to marry at 6:56 pm at the open-air venue. But just as the Hindu wedding rituals were about to begin, torrential rain forced the gathering to seek shelter.
Meanwhile, in a nearby covered hall, the Walima ceremony of Mohsin Kazi and Maheen — part of a Muslim wedding celebration — was taking place. The Kazi family, upon learning of the disrupted Hindu wedding, generously offered their stage to the drenched guests and family.
A family friend of the Kawades, recalled, “We had no choice but to look for shelter. That’s when we approached the adjacent hall and requested to perform the ‘Saptapadi’ indoors. Without hesitation, they welcomed us and vacated the stage.”
The Kazi family’s gesture went beyond just providing space. Their guests assisted in setting up the Hindu wedding, ensuring both rituals were conducted respectfully, one after the other.
The Kazi family also invited the Kawades and their guests to join them for dinner and shared the dining space, turning the night into a joint celebration of love, unity, and mutual respect.
The image of two newlywed couples — Maheen and Mohsin Kazi, and Sankruti and Narendra Galande — smiling together on one stage, became a symbol of what’s possible when compassion overcomes division.
As both families shared later, “This kind of togetherness — this only happens in India.”
