Pune, March 24, 2026: Shiv Sena (Thackeray faction) leader Vasant More may face arrest at any moment after the Pune District Court rejected his pre-arrest bail application in a case registered under the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act.

The case was filed by Avinash Vishwanath Lahade, vice-president of the Vanchit Bahujan Aghadi, alleging that More had made derogatory remarks during a press conference about Lahade’s father, Vishwanath Tukaram Lahade, who belongs to a Scheduled Caste. The complaint was lodged at Shivajinagar Police Station.

More had approached the court seeking pre-arrest bail to avoid immediate detention. However, after hearing arguments from both sides, the court rejected the application, leaving law enforcement free to take him into custody. Authorities have indicated that an arrest could occur at any time.

The controversy stems from a press conference held on February 25, 2026, where More’s remarks were considered offensive toward a member of a Scheduled Caste, triggering legal action under the Atrocity Act. The court’s decision marks a significant development in the case and has sent shockwaves through Pune’s political circles.
