Pune Shivers as Mercury Drops to 9.4°C, Coldest in Three Years
Pune: The city woke up to a sharp chill on Tuesday as minimum temperatures dipped to 9.5°C in Shivajinagar and 9.5°C in Pashan, marking Pune’s coldest morning in the last three years. Several pockets across the district reported temperatures below 10°C, signaling an early and intense winter spell.
The coldest reading in the region was recorded at Loni Kalbhor in Haveli, where the minimum touched 6.9°C, according to early observations.
Why Pune Is Getting Colder
Meteorologists point to three key reasons behind the sudden drop:
- Clear skies at night allowing heat to escape quickly
- Low humidity, making the air feel sharper and colder
- Steady flow of cold north winds pushing temperatures down
These conditions have remained consistent for the past two days, leading to a continued fall in night temperatures across the city.
How Residents Felt It
Punekars reported noticeably colder mornings, with many switching to warm clothing earlier than expected. The sudden chill left several areas experiencing strong shivering conditions, especially during early hours.
What’s Next
IMD forecasts suggest that the cold spell is likely to continue for the next few days, with night temperatures staying lower than normal. Days will remain pleasant, but mornings and late evenings will stay chilly.
