Pune, Maharashtra: The Sri Bichkshna Durgotsav Committee at Shri Sankatharan Mandir, NIBM Circle, Kondhwa hosts a grand Basant Panchami – Saraswati Puja, bringing together the Prabasi Bengali community of Pune in a deeply spiritual and culturally rich celebration every year. This year the Puja will be held on February 3 at Sankat Haran Mahadev Mandir on NIBM Road in Kondhwa.

For Pune’s Bengali diaspora, Saraswati Puja is more than a religious event—it’s a bridge to their homeland, keeping alive traditions rooted in Shastras, cultural heritage, and sacred Hindu scriptures. The event saw attendees from across India, including Bangalore and Delhi, as well as from countries like the UK, USA, Singapore, and the Maldives.

Marking its 21st year, the celebration from October 8 to October 12, 2024, witnessed an overwhelming turnout of nearly 1,000 devotees. The puja is recognized for its non-commercial, deeply spiritual, and purest form of devotion to Maa Bageshwari, Maa Veenadharini, Maa Sharada, and Maa Pustakdharini—a distinction that sets it apart from other Saraswati Puja events in Pune.

The Sri Bichkshna Durgotsav was founded 21 years ago by Mr. Jayanta Chakrabarty, who, after moving to Maharashtra, sought to bring the essence of Bengal’s Durga Puja and Saraswati Puja to Pune. Since then, the event has become a melting pot of nostalgia and devotion, blending traditional rituals with live music, dance, poetry, and cultural performances, offering Prabasi Bengalis a true “home away from home.”
