Pune, 25th April 2023: The Maharashtra state education department has taken up the task of shutting down schools which have failed to complete the documentation process. Those schools having no official recognition from the government have also been fined by the government’s education dept.

The department found errors in the documentation of over 800 schools across the state. 77 schools have already been shut down, with Palghar seeing the highest number of schools being shut.

Earlier this year, documents from three schools in Pune were found to be fraudulent, which led to the state education commissioner, Suraj Mandhare, to order inspections of other board schools across the state.

The closed schools are spread across the state, with six schools in Pune, 13 in Mumbai, 15 in Thane, 20 in Palghar, and 10 in Nagpur. The government’s drive to shut down bogus schools will end by April 30.Â
