Pune : State Excise Dept takes action against 400 establishments in 2 months ahead of upcoming Lok Sabha Elections
As per the instructions of Commissioner, State Excise Department, State of Maharashtra Vijay Suryavanshi, Director, Enforcement and Vigilance Sunil Chavan and Divisional Deputy Commissioner, State Excise Department, Pune Division Sagar Dhomkar, keeping in mind with the preparations for upcoming Lok Sabha elections 2024 in Pune district, production, transportation of illegal liquor, the State Excise Department has regularly conducted a special campaign against the sale as well as the transportation of liquor in foreign states.
As per further information shared by the State Excise Department, Pune, the following actions have been taken by the State Excise Department:

Action against those selling illegal liquor as well as consumers consuming the illegal liquor in illegal places as per section 68 and 84 of Maharashtra Prohibition Act 1949. (1/4/2023 to 31/1/2024):
According to section 68 and 84 of the Maharashtra Prohibition Act, 1949, action has been taken against the sellers of illegal liquor as well as against the consumers who consume illegal liquor in illegal places and a total of 203 cases have been registered out of which a total of 468 accused will be arrested and produced in the court. A total of 170 accused have been convicted and the court has imposed a fine of Rs 5,83,100 on all the accused.
Because of this, not only action has been taken against the sellers of illegal liquor, but also against those who consume liquor at the said place, the customers who consume liquor at the said illegal place will also face pressure.
A total of 48 proposals have been submitted to the Commissioner of Police under the MPDA Act, 1981 against such people who are involved in illegal liquor business and have not stopped the illegal liquor business even after taking preventive measures due to which the order of the society has been disturbed. Out of the 48, the action of placement has been completed against a total of 10 accused.

In view of the upcoming Lok Sabha Elections 2024, the focus will be on the illicit manufacture, transportation and sale of liquor as well as the illegal supply of liquor from foreign states. For that purpose, the Department of State Excise, Pune has formed a total of 14 regular teams and a total of 3 special teams and checkpoints will be set up at various places to prevent the production, transportation and sale of illegal liquor. Night patrolling will also be done. Strict action will be taken against the liquor stock coming from outside the state.
A total of 14 regular teams and a total of 3 special teams will operate under the control of Superintendent, State Excise, Pune and Deputy Superintendent, State Excise, Pune.
