Pune, July 7, 2025: In a heart-wrenching incident that has left animal lovers and residents of Pune in shock, a young stray dog was found brutally tortured in Rohan Abhilasha Society, Wagholi. The helpless animal sustained over 15 to 20 deep wounds after an unidentified attacker allegedly inserted a sharp weapon into its private parts and stabbed it multiple times across its body.
The incident reportedly took place around 6:30 PM on July 4. Residents noticed the injured dog lying in a pool of blood and struggling for life. Eyewitnesses stated that despite the heinous act happening in broad daylight, no one intervened to stop the attacker.
Local animal lovers, including Vinod Subhash Walunj, rushed the severely injured dog first to Getwell Pet Clinic and then to the Mission Possible Foundation Pune (MPFP) for emergency treatment. Veterinarians at MPFP performed life-saving surgery and admitted the dog in critical condition.
“This was an act of unimaginable cruelty,” said Padmini Stump from MPFP. “A monster tortured this innocent animal using sharp instruments. Such brutality cannot be ignored or silenced. Attempts have even been made by certain society members to offer money in exchange for suppressing this crime. But justice for this poor soul cannot be bought.”
A formal complaint was filed at Wagholi Police Station, and an FIR has been registered against an unknown person. Police Inspector Yuvraj Sambhaji Hande confirmed that a case has been lodged, and investigations are underway to identify and arrest the perpetrator.
Animal welfare activists are urging Pune Police to ensure swift action and have called for the immediate arrest of the accused. The incident has sparked outrage on social media, with citizens demanding stringent punishment for crimes against animals.
“Today it was a dog; tomorrow, it could be a human. Such dangerous individuals must be behind bars,” added Stump.
