Summer vacations came in early this year, with the schools closed one week before the time schedule due to extreme heat conditions. This challenged the plans which the kids had made to spend their vacations. But not letting the disappointment take over their emotions, two residents, Class 5 and 6 students, Tanisha Yadav and Aaheli Mondal started the Summer Library in Roseland Residency in Pimple Saudagar.

The kids gave a shout out in the society and library started on May 1 with 98 books. Till May 11, they have a treasure of 300 books donated by children, for the children.

Speaking to Pune Aaheli and Tanisha said that it was their teachers’ idea to start a library in the society so that children make new friends and also read something interesting. The thought stuck quite deep among the children who took this as a challenge and stepped further into it by sharing it with their parents.

Joyita, mother of Aaheli, a home chef too said, “It was nice to see children engaged into reading books rather than spending time on mobile phones. They have earned a lot of new friends and new books also.”

While Preeti Yadav, mother of Tanisha shared that the idea initiated by the children is supported by mine and Joyita’s family. It is actually overwhelming to see the response too by the children from the society.

The books are categorised into Adventure, Kids, Moral stories, Mythical, Horror and Mystery, etc.

Books are available for children aged between 6 years to 14 years between Monday and Friday and exclusively for Roseland Residency kids.
